John provides clients with over a decade of extensive trial and appellate experience. He previously served as a federal and state public defender in rural Maryland and upstate New York, and earlier in his career, as an associate with a leading trial boutique in Detroit, Michigan. He has served as lead counsel in close to 100 trials and has handled over a dozen appeals. His trial experience includes a wide variety of serious felony cases involving:
- Public corruption
- COVID program fraud
- Internet crimes
- Murder
- Conspiracy
- Drug trafficking
John’s successes at trial stem from his relentless pretrial investigation and his devotion to the art and science of cross examination. He has briefed and argued appeals in the New York state appellate courts, litigated complex motions in state and federal courts in New York and Michigan, and has represented individuals in federal habeas proceedings. John also has extensive experience representing individuals and small businesses in grand jury proceedings and government investigations. Since joining Osborn Reed & Burke, John has also been involved in the civil defense of medical professionals and small businesses.
He is a graduate of the American University, Washington College of Law where he served as articles editor for the American University Business Law Review, the National Criminal Defense College, and Kenyon College where he started at offensive tackle for the football team. John and his wife have two wonderful daughters.
